How Todd Falcone Started in Network Marketing
Todd Falcone didnโt mean to get into network marketing.
He was just looking for a job.
He thought he was going to a job interview in Irvine, California.
But it turned out to be a business presentation.
He had never even heard of MLM before.
But when he saw the idea of making money from product sales and building a team, he thought, โWhy not?โ
The concept made sense to him, so he signed up on the spot.
His first two years were rough.
He didnโt make much money.
He even had to move back in with his parents and sleep in bunk beds.
His mom thought it was a pyramid scheme and told him to pay back his college tuition.
But Todd believed in the model.
So he kept going.
Eventually, things turned around.
Turning Point in the Business or Major Lightbulb Moment for Todd Falcone
In 1991, Todd went to a big event at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
Thatโs where everything clicked.
The speaker did a skit about The Joker from Batman.
The message?
Lighten up.
Todd had been too serious and forceful.
His sponsor looked at him and said, โThatโs you.โ
Todd realized he needed to stop grinding so hard and start having more fun.
From that moment on, he brought joy into his work.
He stopped being stiff and formal when he talked to people.
He just became Todd.
That small change made a huge difference.
Worse Moment in Network Marketing for Todd Falcone
Todd had two big low points.
The first was early on when a prospect ghosted him.
He was so frustrated, he left her a nasty voicemail.
She sent it to the CEO of the company.
He got a call the next day.
It was embarrassing and a big wake-up call.
The second was many years later.
He had spent 11 years with a company.
Life was good. He was golfing and surfing and still making money.
Then the company shut down.
He lost everything.
But that disaster led to something amazing.
It pushed him to become a speaker and trainer.
And heโs been doing that ever since.
The Lighthearted Shift Todd Falcone Made in Network Marketing
One thing Todd talked a lot about was learning to enjoy the process.
He said he used to be way too serious.
He was stiff when calling prospects.
That pushed people away.
But then he started acting more like his true selfโthe same fun-loving guy who loves fishing and surfing.
He made prospecting casual and comfortable.
Like taking off your tie after a long day.
He reminded people to smile, laugh, and just relax.
That mindset made the business so much easierโand way more fun.
Million Dollar Question for Todd Falcone
If Todd had to start over and knew no one, what would he do?
He said he would use his Recruiting Professionals method.
Heโd go after people in real estate, mortgage, insurance, and sales.
Heโd look for leaders and professionals.
Why?
Because those people already know how to work hard.
And theyโre used to commissions.
So thatโs who heโd talk to first.
How Todd Falcone Overcame Negativity from His Family
When Todd first told his mom he was joining an MLM, she flipped out.
She called it a pyramid scheme.
She even threatened to make him pay back his college tuition.
When he moved back in with her after failing in his first company, she thought she was right.
But Todd didnโt give up.
He secretly signed up for another MLM.
He had the products and checks sent to a friendโs house.
He didnโt want his mom to know.
He believed in the industry too much to walk away.
The Power of Confidence and Self-Belief for Todd Falcone
Todd said he didnโt start with confidence.
He was nervous.
He stuttered.
He sweated through calls.
But he kept going.
He said confidence doesnโt come first.
It comes from doing the work.
Trying.
Failing.
Learning.
He believes everything rises and falls on confidence.
And confidence is built one action at a time.
